Tropical Resort Style Masonry home for Whitford

Fabulous New Tropical Resort Style Masonry home for Whitford – Friday, July 01, 2011

This home has been designed in the manner of the tropical resort architecture I discovered during my travels throughout Sri Lanka and Thailand. Lush planting and an infinity swimming pool add to the intriguing tropical idiom.

The home has a floor area of approximately 450m2 with 600m2 of clay tile roof, supported on rendered cavity brick walls and Doric columns. Large porches or ‘lanai’ with multiple decks broken up paving and planting also echo the architecture of the Hawaiian Islands. A strong symbolic and metaphysical axis is established to the water views and the gulf islands, from the solid carved entry door depicting island scenes, through to the use of reflective paving inside and out, and the use of the waterfall pool to create a disappearing edge. Additional, yet to be designed planting, will soften the architecture and meld the house into landform still further.
